Locally Sourced Water

The Norfolk Brecklands are known for their light, sandy soil, deposited by retreating glaciers some 400,000 years ago. But 65 million years earlier, the whole region was covered by a tropical sea, in which deep layers of chalk were laid down – deposits which extend from north-west Norfolk to the Chiltern Hills. This geology provides the bottling plant with its greatest asset: millions of litres of fresh, sweet, naturally filtered water, held in this Cretaceous chalk layer.

The water source is fully lined to protect against any contamination from surface water, so the water extracted is naturally pure and healthy. Nevertheless the water is submitted to further micro-filtration before bottling. Even before this process, the water is very low in nitrates: the permitted level is 50mg/litre, and ours contains just 6.5. Similarly, while the permitted sodium level is 200mg/litre, Harling Premium English Water contains just 15, before filtration, so it is ideal for anyone on a low-sodium diet.

One more thing. Because Harling Premium English Water is extracted from chalk layers, it contains a little calcium – which is not only good for your health, but also gives the water a flavour which is almost universally preferred in blind tastings.

Of course, there would be little point in achieving these outstanding purity levels in our water if we did not match them with corresponding levels of hygiene in the bottling process. As bottler members of BWCA, both areas are regularly and rigorously checked by independent third party auditors – and time after time, our results are among the best in the country.

Sanitisation

Hygiene standards are imperative to us, all our rental agreements include OWS Service Contracts to ensure high quality water being dispensed from all our machines.

For those that own their equipment there are single sanitisation visits or annual packages available to suit your requirements.

As part of our servicing and sanitisation service we will supply documentation upon completion of work, for you to use as evidence of any on-site inspection for hygiene compliance.

All our staff are fully trained, using the markets leading products and filters such as Britta and 3M. Our aim is to cause as less disruption as possible, we offer an out of hours service or alternatively a temporary machine exchange whilst the works are carried out should availability be an issue.

CHAS Accreditation

Part of our high standards our customers expect, we recognised the importance to accredit ourselves with the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS). We have been members since 2011 potential or existing customers can be reassured that OWS are Health & Safety competent.

CHAS assessments will monitor the businesses Health & Safety Policy statement, their organisation and specific arrangements to a standard acceptable to any buyers.

Participating in the CHAS scheme helps both suppliers and buyers.

1. Suppliers show compliance with important parts of health and safety law (the core criteria described in the CDM regulations)
2. On achieving compliance a supplier is approved to work for all of CHAS' buyers.(Some Buyers may require "Accredited" Status)
3. Inconsistencies are reduced where some suppliers may be judged compliant by one buyer but not another
4. CHAS gives guidance on any weaknesses in a supplier's safety management, including how they can improve
5. Being a CHAS supplier or buyer saves both time and resources
